Hearing Aid Styles

There are three basic styles of hearing aids at
Nu-Sound.

The Open-Ear Canal hearing aids are preferred, as the ear insert is always kept as open as possible.

New developments even make it possible to do without an ear mold. It is not suitable, however, to all kinds of hearing loss. It is most appropriate for slight to moderate hearing loss.. The tube is inserted directly into the ear canal.

Open systems are very good but only possible with selected hearing loss. Many traditional hearing aids completely fill the ear, leading to a common complaint — that "plugged up" or "echo chamber sensation.”

The Open-Ear Canal hearing aid eliminates these annoying problems while providing more natural sound quality and clarity. These hearing aids provide the latest technology available. Nu-Sound offers Siemens, Vivatone and Qualiton.

In Canal hearing aids.
The In-the-Canal (ITC) hearing aid is customized to fit the size and shape of the ear canal and is used for mild or moderately severe hearing loss.

Completely-in-Canal
The Completely-in-Canal (CIC) hearing aid is largely concealed in the ear canal and is used for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. Because of their small size, canal aids may be difficult for the user to adjust and remove, and may not be able to hold additional devices, such as a telecoil.

In the Ear aids
In the Ear (ITE) hearing aids fit completely in the outer ear and are used for mild to severe hearing loss. The case, which holds the components, is made of hard plastic. ITE aids can accommodate added technical mechanisms, such as a telecoil, a small magnetic coil contained in the hearing aid that improves sound transmission during telephone calls.

Behind the ear aids
Behind the ear (BTE) hearing aids are worn behind the ear and are connected to a plastic earmold that fits inside the outer ear. The components are held in a case behind the ear. Sound travels through the earmold into the ear.

BTE aids are used by people of all ages for mild to profound hearing loss.

BTE hearing aids are easier to wear, easier to switch on and off, and battery changing is also less of a problem. In addition, the mold separates easily from the appliance, so that it can be cleaned regularly.
An audio link can only be used with behind the ear system. This allows wearers to hear speech without disturbing background sound, or to connect up to sound systems.
